As a pet groomer, I am a true believer in veterinary provided dental cleanings. I have had several clients thank me profusely for advising them to have their pet’s teeth cleaned after I noticed life threatening build up on their teeth. The common comments to me after their veterinarian’s dental cleaning were “they have so much energy now!” and “they act like a new dog!”. I have also groomed dogs whose faces I couldn’t touch because of their painful mouths. After dental cleaning (and yes, a few teeth pulled!) I could groom their faces without a problem.

For years I have refrained from offering dental brushing since this needs to be done daily to be effective. I couldn’t charge for a once a month (or less) service that just pretended to make a difference in a pet’s dental health! WELL NOW I HAVE PRODUCTS THAT EXTEND MY DENTAL CARE ASSISTANCE BEYONE THE DAY OF GROOMING! Dental cleaning at your veterinarian may still be needed prior to treatment depending on the condition of your dog’s teeth; the dental gel works best if we start with clean teeth! However, my goal is to help avoid pulling teeth, and to hopefully extend time between stressful and costly dental cleanings.

My procedure starts with a traditional tooth brushing with flavored enzymatic tooth paste to mechanically remove excess debris. I then gently apply OraVet^® Plaque Prevention Gel at the base of the gums to fight bacteria and reduce plaque for up to one week.
